EOTC, WEDNESDAY 31st OCTOBER, ROPES COURSE

On Friday 31st October Y7 went to a ropes course in the bush. We arrived by bus then had to walk for about 10 minutes until we finally arrived there. It was a hot day under the sun but in the bush it quickly cooled down.

We first went to the low ropes for a teamwork exercise. Then we moved onto the high ropes. There were to different directions you could go. The shorter people had to go on the normal one but the taller people had the choice of doing an extra bit or carry on with the normal one. At the end of the course there was a flying fox. To get down from the flying fox you had to stand on a barrel then let go of the rope you were holding.

Once everyone had had a turn we walked back to the bus and left for the rest of the day.

The Long Suspense

There it is. Just waiting for me to open it. The other smaller presents have already been opened and this strange one is all that is left. Silver wrapping is covering the surpris.eThere is stillness in the air. Everyone is eager to find out what it is. All eyes are on me and the present. If only I could do it in an empty room alone. I smell a sweet orange smell coming from the kitchen. Lunch is nearly ready and I need to hurry up. Peeling back just a slight amount of cellotape it too much to hand for me. I stand up and walk out of the silent room. The present will just have to wait until everyone was gone.

Speeches

Today we presented our speeches in front of the class. I am going to tell you about Mr BRO’s speech. I think it was on war aeroplanes but I knew some of the boys were enjoying it. It had a lot of information but next time you could maybe slow down a little as you were rushing through it. I had given him a 3 or 4 out of 5 for stance, I think 3 out of 5 for eye contact, 3 or 4 out of 5 for voice projection, 5 or 6 out of 10 for the topic, 3 for delivery and over all, 18? out of 30. Make sure you say your words clearly so people can hear next but well done Mr BRO.

My Reading Book

My book I am reading at the moment is The Dahl Manac, A Year With Roald Dahl, fun fact and jokes. It has chapters that are like months so chapter 1 is September. It has letters that Roald sent home when he went to boarding school. At the end of each chapter it has 5 jokes about what you just read and famous people that were born in that month. I would give the book a 8 out of 10.

Poetry Reading

This is my poem I learnt and did:

A soldiers letter home

We charge. We retreat.

The rain is pouring down.

Bullets are cracking.

How it warms the skin.

Again the charge.

Again we face the enemy.

Bullets are cracking.

Blades are slashing.

And death gives birth to death.

How it warms the skin

Haiku

This week we started to write a haiku. A haiku is a Japanese poem that doesn’t have to rhyme but can. There is only 3 lines in it with the first line having only 5 syllables, the second having 7 and the last having 5 syllables. I did mine on rain and found a cool picture with rain running down a glass window. When we did our own haiku we had to write it out in our books first and then make changes so it is good. We didn’t have to have correct grammar but the spelling had to be correct. We then went onto the computers and searched for a picture on Google Images. Then we saved it and inserted the picture onto a word document. Then we typed our haiku onto the picture and saved.

this is mine: haiku1

Art, week 9, term 1

Yesterday in art we were finishing the background of our art auction painting. We are working in groups of 3 or 2 people and we can do the painting on either fruit or vegetables. My group consists of Brett, Dhruv and myself and our group is doing vegetables. The vegetables we are doing are a pumpkin, red capcicum and a lemon even though it is fruit.

In our background we have light and dark checkered tiles and then we have a brown table which the fruits are sitting on. Next week we will be doing the out line of the fruit and painting them white.

Tuesday, week 9, term 1, descriptive story writing

Today we had Ms. Thorpe for our teacher as Mr. Kendall had taken year 8 to bike the Rimataka Incline.  We starting do a description writing. Ms Thrope started to writing a brain storm on the board and we had to say descripte words. Once we had down that we had to open our books and stick a picture in. The picture was about a plane in a jungle. Then we started writing some words that we were going to use. Next we went on the computer and started writing our story. At the end of the day, we printed off the beginning to put up on our classroom wall.
